Lithographs on children's toys are like the dates stamped on egg cartons. These toys depict an era of industry and expansion. They are bright and sturdy. The images were whimsical and happy. These are the toys that were meant to be played with, left outside and most of all to last. J. Chein and Ohio Art were two of the leading companies that produced these great toys. Luckily, a lot of them did last and although they can be expensive...sometimes you can get your hands on a few!
My best friend and I took a much needed mom break on Friday for a few quick hours. She is not an antique lover. However, a stop at her stores earn me a stop at mine. On a quick run through a Flea Market I ran across these sweet cans way under priced.
An oh so sweet Dutch Girl and Boy on this petite Ohio Art toy can.
Picket fence and panda bears in pinafores and pantsuits.
Bakelite tulips in Spring green.
My gaggle of cans look right at home beneath my vintage plant stands.
After my perfect placement...Reagan (cat) came running through and knocked them down like they were bowling pins. He was not aware of my new acquisitions. There was quite a commotion from the tin clanks and the bakelite hollows. The dogs love to hunt the cat for fun once or twice a day. I am sure he will reroute his escape next time after all of this noise!
I'm in awe of your watering cans. I have never ever found them for a decent price and the graphics on your collection are delightful. Regan knocking them over is pretty darn funny. I found a reproduction sand pail with amazing graphics last summer and I'm already plotting a summer blog banner with it. You scored BIG time on this latest acquisition. Congrats!
