We are hibernating in the basement. Away from the outside crispy dry heat emitting earth. I will spare you a long drawn out post about how hot it is and leave you with the temperature...110'F. While hibernating today I did lots of stitching.
Using a pattern seems way too logical. Let's just say I use it as a mere guide. These sweet strawberries are so wonderful to work with. I am enjoying not only the weight of this vintage tablecloth but the patterns within the fabric as well. This is the stage of pinning in place.
I know this looks a little familiar in more ways than one. ( chair of roses and gingham apron see side bar) But the subtle nature of the rick rack and lines are so charming to me.
Just loving the yoke on this. Strawberries spilling out of the baskets and into the ruffles.
Sides have yet to be finished and lots of seams need to be sewn. This is just the pinning stage. The pattern book has long been closed I am winging it from here. Better to go with what looks best than what is written.
Such a happy thought to think way back when the strawberries were plenty and the weather was cool. This too shall pass and we will be trying to remember wearing shorts I am sure. Looking forward to getting out of the house tomorrow. Thanks for all your lovely comments they truly make my day!
110 degrees...wow. i'd hibernate, too. love the darling strawberry apron, and that pin cushion, too. did you make it? it's sweet, just like you.

It's going to be a blessed 84 degrees here tomorrow, and by golly that sounds lovely! And that apron? Well it's just delicious!
ReplyDeleteHappy REDnesday,
Carol
For winging it, I'd say you did a darn good job!
ReplyDeleteI’M FOND OF CERISE
For red my affection is great,
It’s puce and chartreuse that I hate.
I’m fond of cerise,
It makes a nice piece
Of clothing that looks just first-rate.

Your strawberry apron is just delightful. That pincushion is sooooo sweet. The humidity has fogged up all our windows this evening, but we're not dealing 100+ heat. Sending cool thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteIt's really looking cute!! Lots of red gingham and ruffles. :-) I really like your little strawberry pincushion! It's truly awful outside. My grass is crunchy.
ReplyDeleteThat apron is so cute!! You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteIt was 110 here or so the radio said. I haven't heard what the offical high was yet! Are we ever going to get a break?

What a great pattern you have used on that strawberry apron. Really a nice job.
ReplyDeleteToo bad its so hot there but at least you have a way to escape some of the heat. I love what you are doing with the apron. I see you have your background back but it's different. Nan
ReplyDeleteI just love the new polka dots. Yes I do have to agree the heat is bad. So glad I work inside. Your apron is just too cute. The fabrics are great I love the way you are putting it all together.

ReplyDeleteIt's been very hot in our part also. Plus the humidity around here brings us to the same place as you..Last few days, it's gone back to 'normal'..the high 90's....I adore that apron...just beautiful
ReplyDeleteLookin' Good! I sold an identical tablecloth. Maybe it too was turned into something wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove your ruffly aprons! You are so creative! Hard to imagine that heat, but glad you have a basement for keeping cool!

Hi Renee!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful thing, as always. I have so eager to learn stitch ... I bought a sewing machine, but still do not know to use it! I do many crafts but I can not sew, this is terrible!
Blessed to you later.
