This weeks book is a 1952 Rand McNally edition of Aesop's Fables. The inscription inside reads "To Tommy from Sharon and Linda Hammer 4-27-1953. I chuckle at the thought of this going to a boy with all the morals tucked in its pages.
The inside book cover pages always reveal the coming stories.
I would love to watch the artist render these sweet illustrations.
Illustrations by Anne Sellers Leaf.
The Fox and the Grapes
(one that I am not familiar with)
The Ants and the Grasshopper
I love the italicized moral below the fable.
Always stop to think whether your fun may not be the cause of another's unhappiness.
Cutest wolf in sheep's clothing ever.
Gentleness and kind persuasion win where force and bluster fail.
Meet me over at Corey's for this weeks...
It's been a long time since I read Aesop's fables! What great stories and a wonderful book! ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story. Thanks for sharing it sweetie. I especially loved the last page of graphics with the sun and the wind as it has helped with my inspiration for the new line of characters I'm creating. I wish I could show you, but I'm frightened to death of someone finding out and copying me, and I really need good things to happen this year...I'm desperate! I hate it cause I'm used to sharing everything and I just can't take any chances. Okay, enough of the drama......if you're really interested though, you could always come out for a visit...wink, wink!
ReplyDeleteLove ya'

ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Love the Rand McNally books! Thanks for sharing all those cute pages.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of Aesop's Fables in ages. I love the beautiful illustrations and the positive messages.
ReplyDeleteGreat illustrations! I bought a 1951 copy of "A Treasury of World's Great Myths and Legends" at the The Bins recently and it has a section of Aesop's Fables which I have been enjoying during some recliner chair time. Who doesn't know about "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" but so fun to read the original!

I used the boy crying wolf to my grandson the other day...he kept high pitch screaming outside...and we thought he was hurt.
ReplyDeleteI thought after telling him the story he would behave...he didn't...sooooo when he really screamed and cried...we had seen the whole thing..and new he was barely hurt....we ignored him...this freaked him out...I told him the story again...and now I think he understands...he is 10!!!
Love the graphics as usual!!
