Batons and Fanfare

This all started a few weeks ago when I went looking for my summer fan. The cute vintage one with the unmistakable jadeite color. Where did I put it to store for the winter? After multiple boxes and a few four letter words I came across my baton from pep squad. My mother was THE majorette...she wanted me to put my books down and be more of a social butterfly. She offered me up to the football pep squad and firmly planted a baton in my hand......I have no coordination and subsequently no rhythm but I still have that baton!

I can retire to my studio for more than a few moments...to admire the new memo boards I purchased from Magpie Ethel.

Some deep cleaning and yet more movements have me finally singing sweet tunes again.

The shelves remain my daily highlight and favorite storage solution.

French doors have been a blessing and a curse. They take up so much room on one wall I have finally decided to put a small shelf in front of one of them. Yes, I do think I am collecting shelves as well.

Sigh...I could sit in here for hours. Never growing tired of a thing. It is a room of all my favorites.

Although I am completely taken with most of the room...this cupboard has given me fits. I adore the top but that bottom has been a complete crafting fail. Painted white, it disappeared on the wall. Now this pink it clashes with everything. The wall paper fronts are a temporary fix. I am now ignoring it until I get another can of paint and some energy.

I found the fan in the blue hamper...the last place I looked. It still has a strand of thread on it from last summer...the baton has returned to its storage box. As I turned off the lights in the family room a few nights ago I smiled. Headstrong and accomplished I thought as I ran my hand over the binding of all my beloved books. The ones that aren't hidden in storage but on display like a beautiful butterfly.  A battle I clearly won.

  1. I am in love with with your crafting room. So nice.
I was a majorette as well. I have my baton as well. It was given to me by a teacher that talked me into taking lessons from her and to try out. I think she felt bad that I never made it past alternate to be a cheerleader (not too coordinated). She also wanted some one new to be a majorette.

  5. I love looking at your craft room. Makes me want to pull everything out of mine and rearrange it. (that long shelf on the wall is awesome). But ALAS if I pulled everything out of mine it would take me weeks to sort it all out. The boards look super on the wall and the colors work perfectly. Headed back to the post to take one more look at it all....

  7. I just love your wall of shelves! I really need to do something like that. I can tell it would give me so much more storage than I've currently got... And the perfect space to display dollhouses, right?

  8. These pictures make me want to play... with all your doll houses and toys and fabrics and pretty things. LOVE it! :-) I bet you were a great majorette! My big sister took baton lessons for a while when we was little. (I learned how to twirl by watching her.) She was so cute in her little blue and gold outfit, marching in the parades, with her front teeth missing. (because she was 6/7, not because the baton knocked them out.) But then we moved and that ended that. The school (overseas) that we went to there didn't have a band or a majorette anyway.

  9. "She was little" not "we was little". I need the spellcheck police to look over my comments before I hit publish.

  12. I could spend each and every day in your craft room and never tire of it's beauty! Your vintage items are so inspiring! I was also a twirler, still have my baton, but over the years the ends have disintegrated with my girls tossing it around. I'll have to find some replacements for it, a cherished item!

Love your shelfs and all your vintage tins etc. Have you painted your cupboard a pale yellow yet? i think that would look lovely against the blue and the pinks in your room. dee xx

  18. Your craft room is beautiful. I could linger there for a long time just looking at all the details. Love those vintage hankies strung just below the ceiling. Nice way to display them! I think that "problem" cabinet would look nice in all blue, or, as someone suggested above, in soft yellow.

    Love your blog!
