I've discovered a new pet peeve when visiting a few favorite antique stores. You might remember my post about NFS. Surely it couldn't be worse than that? Oh, yes it can. Imagine me walking through the antique mall and spying a marvelous new trinket. I reach for it carefully in hopes that it is within my budget...and I find...it is not priced? What? I am now walking up to the desk to retrieve the usual "I'll have to call the vendor." Forget it.
Luckily, enough of my items were priced.
A metal diaper pail with a decal.
With the original enamel liner.
Laurie I blame you for this darling affliction...KEWPIE dolls. She has the sweetest dress and was originally a powder container. Mamaw's bowl and a tin tray.
Whitman coloring book set.
(More on this later.)
A timely Americana book.
Beautifully illustrated.
Patriotic.
Then I came across these...two of the sweetest Christmas finds ever.
An embroidery pattern so sweet I can't wait to put it on everything.
Ruth E. Newton illustrated my very favorite book The Night Before Christmas...what? Ooo did I just squeal in the store? Worth the looks...trust me. Paired with a very unusual flashlight turned lamp.
Wowee, you've been a busy little bee. I hope your heart is filling up with joy now that you're back to crafting and blogging.

So many adorable finds Renee!!
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my pet peeves, too, Renee. So much so, that when I do my first holiday market in just about 10 days I am triple checking to make sure I have prices on everything. It especially bothers me at antique malls when the vendors are not there all the time. I find it very annoying and when I don't see a price on something that interests me, I just move on. You found some great pieces.
ReplyDeleteI hate that when there's no price tags. You managed to get some great stuff anyway. The little Christmas outfit is the cutest. I have a soft spot for Night Before Christmas. Love the tin tray and diaper pail too.
ReplyDeleteOh, Renee...you have the most wonderful knack for finding the sweetest of sweet things!
ReplyDeleteI HATE that little NFS sign! I had the most wonderful old doll head in my hands all ready to buy (even had a ridiculously low price tag on it!), only to bring it up to the register for the woman to point out the almost unreadable, very hated notation! I feel your pain, my friend!
Wishing you a wonderful day (you will find another--you deserve it!)
Julie
I hate that, too. So much so that sometimes I take it back up to the front and tell them I would have bought it but don't have the time to stand around and wait for them to call the owner.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, you found some great stuff that was priced!
Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! Your little books look like they were never read!!! The day I found the brand new old Cecil and Beanie for you I fainted, it hadn't even been cracked open! Your blue bowl is tiny! Absolutely PERFECTO! I would have been tempted to pay whatever if it was my Grama's pattern and I found it, you were lucky it was so reasonable! Love this post, pure delight in rolling through the pix!

I'm with you, I hate when there's the NFS sign or when something doesn't have a price! But it looks like you did ok on your finds :) :) That little shirt with the embroidery is to sweet! Have a lovely day! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteI love all those items! And that is a pet peeve of mine, too.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Renee, missing price tags are so frustrating! I love the "Ahoy" coloring book. I have one and am actually working on making the cute cover into a tote. God finds, my friend!~~XXOO, Beth

I know it's not fun when the price tag is missing...however, as a dealer, we try to price our stuff before it goes on the shelf. Sometimes the stickers fall off! UGH!! I know that I've found things without prices and then just leave them there! Sorry it's frustrating for everyone...
ReplyDeleteBut, you did SCORE and that is the thrill of the hunt! Great finds!
Warmly,
deb
I was going to say what Deb said, as a vendor, I price all my items, but tags to fall off or get removed by kids, etc. Most stores can shoot a quick text to the vendor and get a quick response back. If you really want it, ask, they will do their best to get a quick price for you.
ReplyDeleteThat little dress is darling. Absolutely adorable!
It's good to see you shopping at your favorite haunts again. Lots of great treasures...especially Christmas. That fireplace stitching is just so sweet. I turned away from a set of Putz houses recently because they weren't priced. Definitely a pet peeve.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet finds!
ReplyDeleteLooks at all these adorable treasures!! Love the diaper pail, and the Christmas shirt! Too cute!! I can imagine a sweet baby on Christmas day wearing that!! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteI have that deer decal but this is the first time I've seen it on something old! Fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm always too embarassed to ask for a price so yeah, that's one thing I will make sure of when I have a booth.
That always happens to me at estate sales..every time. I even had one on the guys who run estate sales in our area say to me "You always seem to find something I didn't price. every.single.time".
ReplyDeleteYou scored some adorable things. I especially love the doll! I have two just like them that wear adorable dresses that someone crocheted.

What a delightful post....in spite of that nasty old "sorry, there's no price on it" that I've experienced, too. Having been born in 1950 I am savoring all the goodies you have shared. It's like stepping back in time!
ReplyDeleteHave fun creating, my sweet friend.
Blessings,
Carolynn xoxo
I hate seeing NFS on an item, especially when it's a picnic tin that I don't have! I can understand display units being NFS, but when it's smaller items, sellers please leave them at home!
ReplyDeleteLove every single sweet little thing you found, but especially that patriotic book. You definitely have a green thumb in finding great treasures!
Oh my gosh what sweet finds! The sweet pail and red tray are something I sure would have grabbed up. That embroidery too is just the cutest! Yeah I hate to have to ask prices!
ReplyDeleteWonderful finds!!
ReplyDeleteMy worst missing price tag incident was at and antique mall in Lincoln City OR. The item clearly had the WRONG price tag so I was honest and pointed it out. They refused to sell it to me because they had a policy of not calling the seller unless the value was more than $200.
Missing price tags grrrrrr.... make me crazy. As a dealer in a mall for several years I can tell you that I try to make sure the price tags are taped securely to my items or tied on tightly but there are people who take the tags off hoping to get the items for a better price. So frustrating. I love all the sweet items you found recently. The diaper pail would make a cute trash can.

Just imagining the cuteness of the child who wore that Christmas outfit ... and what you'll do with that pattern! Trust me, if there is a single unpriced object at an estate sale or antique store, I will find it. Makes me crazy.
ReplyDeleteI hear you- that's a pet peeve of mine at estate sales, too. Sometimes the tag is pulled because someone wants to buy an item, but no one can figure out who.
ReplyDeleteYou sure got some fun cheery goodies!
Renee, I will bet if anything can get you mad it truly is a missing price tag. You are so cute! It is wonderful to see all the sweet things you find and bring home. Rotation. There could be a blog on it's own for all of us who have to try and rotate all our favorite finds!
ReplyDeleteAlways good to visit here! Elizabeth
Renee I am so glad you had fun. Love all your sweet finds.

Love the Christmas embroidery! I'm excited to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you find the cutest things but I must say that the little embroidered shirt takes the cake. Oh my!!
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would say I was in love with a diaper pail, but I am...and the original enamel liner? Double that love.
ReplyDeleteSorry I led you to the dark side with Kewpie dolls..there are worse afflictions...
I am crazy about the diaper pail! What a cute find. I want to go shopping with you sometime. =)
ReplyDeleteThat is a super cute little deer decal on the pail. I understand your frustration about the no price tag. Equally as bad is putting something in a locked case, with the price tag turned upside down so you can't see it. One has to go ask to have the case opened just to see if you can afford it or not. Nope. Most of the time I just walk away.
ReplyDeleteI'm recovering from a downed computer here, and am just getting to your post. What a wonderful bunch of things you found, despite the missing tags (I hate that myself, by the way!). I'm swooning over that diaper pail- that deer decal is one of my very favorites!
ReplyDeleteLove your sweet little blog...your vintage deer can is just adorable!!! I am off to a little Christmas fair today..can't wait! xo
ReplyDeleteI have the same pet peeve, especially since I seem to be a magnet for the unpriced item. And I don't bother to ask either. I think it's nature's way of telling me to leave it there. ;-)
ReplyDeleteRenee, you scored again! It's irksome when items aren't marked. Grrr! I always say, "It must be free!"
ReplyDelete~Cindy
How did I miss this post??? It's filled to the brim with things that I would have taken home!
ReplyDeleteYes, please start putting that little embroidery on everything...and then put some in your shop!
Erica :)
