Anniversaries

Sixteen years, three kids, six dogs, a cat, four fish, eight cars, three houses, four schools for the children and medical school for the husband...It seemed like fifteen was monumental...sixteen feels like the home stretch.  Our pastor is retiring this year...the one that married us...baptized our children...and confirmed our oldest.  It makes us feel sad for the loss of such a special mentor.  He helped shaped our family into such a faithful home.  We will miss his sermons desperately, and hope to grow into the new ones.
Something tells me the first sixteen are tougher than the next sixteen.

Today, just like the morning we got married life got in the way of anything special.  No honeymoon for us.  We planned our wedding around medical board exams and my college graduation.  Our first son arrived in time to celebrate our first anniversary.

This evening spent on a ball field cheering for our middle child.  One of us in the dug out...one of us in the stands.  At night before we pass out of exhaustion we make sure to mention how nice it will be to spend endless hours together in a few short years...maybe he will pick up antiquing...maybe I will go back to school to become a nurse?
Our gift to each other is sticking together.

  2. Happy Anniversary to you two :-) It's never too late for a honeymoon, is it? I didn't have one either -- spent it with my in-laws who had traveled a long distance for our little wedding. :-)

  3. Happy Anniversary and Best wishes for many, many more. We celebrate 21 years next month...we had a 2 day honeymoon to a ski resort...in July...and it rained both days. Honeymoons aren't everything....the empty nest is the best! (Not a first marriage for us...our 3 kids are in their 30's)
    Enjoy your day~

  10. Happy anniversary, and congratulations to you! How wonderful. I hope it is a wonderful happy time and remembrance of the vows you took many years ago. My husband and I tell each other we love each other at least once a day, probably more, and we are each other's biggest fan! When you are with the right person it can be so wonderful . . . as you obviously already know! I'm happy for you both!

  11. Well congratulations to you both for your 16th. It sounds so small to me now but when I was there it did not! By then I had a 14 and 15 year old and we had finally bought our first house after 11 years of marriage. Yes you are surely young enough to start up another career if you choose. Happy Anniversary and many more it looks like you have the recipe for success.

  14. Happy anniversary!
My Mum once said that she didn't worry about what we all did when we grew up...but she worried that we'd all find our soul mates. Luckily we all have - and it's all I want for my boys too (although if one of them could make enough money to buy us all a second home in france it would be up there...)
Hope you find time to enjoy a little celebrating at some point.

re finding time to do anything - I do indeed spend many hours watching and laughing at the growing brood of feathered and shelled friends in our garden. But I do it with stealth. I was fairly anti most of them, so can't give Cleggy the satisfaction of saying he was right. They are all fab to watch!

    have a good week
