I cannot help but see vintage Christmas items and wonder why on earth they stopped making them. For instance, little ten cent Putz houses. Paper mache at its finest. Painted thick with holiday colors, dripping in glitter and tiny little film window panes. What year did they decide these little treasures were no longer worthy of selling? Perhaps that is part of the charm. Having to find them in murky basements could be part of it too.
When Erica of Golden Egg Vintage offered up a swap with them, I couldn't help but play along.
Taking my cues from Magpie Ethel...I set off to decorate a trio perfect for any little display.
Corners that curled were redone with modge podge. Broken ornaments and light reflectors dotted the edges. Hints of glitter on the roofs and snow on the ground finished them off.
Having seen all the other fabulous houses that everyone has made I wonder if I dressed these enough. Well, I could always make more!
Chris my partner at Perfectly Printed these have been place in the mail along with a few other goodies...Merry Christmas and Happy Thanksgiving.
Oh those are so sweet. I was hoping to post my pictures today.
ReplyDeleteYou are so very right. Who did decide that these weren't totally adorable? Luckily there are those that recreate that wonderfulness! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh....I've been transported to tiny little winter wonderland! I think it's time we bring these baby doll houses back.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your Magical post!
Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving!

ReplyDeleteGreat house flip...much better prepared for the holiday!
ReplyDeleteHave you considered a career in Real Estate? I think you have created charm and simplicity! And, there isn't a mile long trail of glitter pointing back to you if you're lucky! Hee hee!
ReplyDeleteThat's what you were waiting for! That was a great idea to "flip" some actual vintage ones! Chris is lucky, and you are talented!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get out my collection. I think I'll do a post about Putz houses because so many people didn't know the term.
I'm soooo glad that you joined my first swap!
Erica :)
I am thinking this about a whole lot of vintage things why did they stop making them? The images were so darn cute. Those little Putz houses I never had many of those and certainly never see them here if I did I'd grab them. I made one last year but it's not that great.
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely! Who can resist a bit of glitter!

ReplyDeleteRenee, Your houses are adorably dressed for the holidays. I sure wish we could find these at a 5 and 10 store. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful, Renee! Vintage Christmas charm in each and every detail...lucky partner!
ReplyDeleteI wish they still made them, too, but you're so right--part of their allure is their days-gone-byness...
Wishing you the most beautiful Thanksgiving week, dear friend!
Julie
They look so nice! You are right, they should have never stopped making them!
ReplyDeleteI think your houses look wonderful, Renne! No need for them to look like someone elses.
ReplyDeleteForgive me if I've told you this story before but I grew up with a putz house village until someone stole it and all our glitzy Christmas decorations from our storage buliding. That was the year it was "go country" or have no Christmas decorations!
My brother made a wooden Christmas village in wood dhop and we hung home baked gingerbread men and home made bakers clay ornaments and popcorn strings on the tree. I guess that's why I have a fondness for glitzy shiny brites and homemade fare. It's the pattern of my life really- over and over. Even though I'm a country girl at heart, my city roots will always be a part of me. ♥
Oh your houses are adorable and sweet love all the touches of pretty glitter! Happy Thanksgiving!! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteI finally got to decorate some houses this weekend ... yours are just adorable!
ReplyDeleteAdorable Renee..If they were easy to find I guess they wouldn't be so special..
ReplyDeleteRenee your houses turned out really cut. You always do such beautiful work.
