Marigold Apron

Heavy skirts...that is what I have decided after making this recent apron.  Their skirts must have weighed several pounds.  I never thought twice when I lined the apron.  It is just the thing I always do.  But it added so much weight I might have to think twice about it next time.

I started with my obvious first choice.  Thinking it would be darling in a vintage tablecloth I was quickly outsmarted by the layout of the pattern.  Loads of fabric were needed.  Darn I need to go fabric hunting....

This beautiful marigold colored vintage sheet was just the ticket. The pockets billowed just so on the skirt.

An addition of covered buttons and hidden snaps helped keep them from flailing open. I had to tame them just a bit.

A strip of vintage trim I have been keeping to give it a little design.

Although I prefer the button top on...it can be removed for skirt purposes only.  It is a very full skirt apron.  The skirt goes all the way around to the back and nearly touch to close.  When I do it again I will decrease the skirt width by 5 inches on each side.

Rather than button the top to the bottom I chose sew in snaps instead.  They were more demure and easier to use.  It turned out very sweet and yet very heavy...lesson learned.

Such a lovely fabric for this delightful design. You really should be modeling these lovely creations. Hope your weekend has been a happy one. We've been enjoying an unusually warm weekend. 80+ plus in October. Unheard of.

Oh Renee! Just the name of this apron had me hooked! It's so lovely! I think it is my favorie so far, at least until the next is made. I am fascinated with your sewing chair recovered. I find myself driving and picturing other pieces you have recovered wondering if I could tackle an arm chair I have been longing to redo. Sigh! Maybe an apron first! Such inspiration here! I love to visit! E

Your apron turned out beautiful. Love the colors and the fabric. I am thinking that it is ok if it is heavy. Cuteness comes first. giggles.

Sometimes heaviness in an apron is good. I get very frustrated when I go to wipe my hands and it goes all the way through to my shorts or pants (whatever). I think aprons should have the same purpose as a towel, cause I'm a hand wiper, hardcore, and I don't want no stinkin' wimpy apron that won't protect me.......ya know?

Anyway, this one is adorable, and I need to know how much you charge to make them. I have some fabric and a pattern, and no time to do it. It's an apron for my oldest daughter....would you be interested in sewing it? Please send me a quote on pricing dearest (I mean it....please).

Love ya'
Meri

Oh so cute and perfect for Fall Renee! I spy some yellow gingham! Do you know I had to buy some online for one of my custom garlands because I couldn't find it in town? Joann's had every color of gingham *except* yellow!

I'll almost done with YOUR garland. I hurt my arm so that set me back a bit. ♥

Ah-dorable! Great job. This looks so very "State Fair", too. You need to check out the blog, All Things Vintage Sheets" if you haven't already...some very pretty things made with vintage sheets.

I kind of like the idea of it going all the way around to the back. For some unknown reason, that is where i tend to wipe my hands - LOL!
I wonder if the weight came from using a vintage sheet? The thread count on a good sheet is very high so it makes sense it would be heavy. Had you been able to use the tablecloth like you originally planned i bet it would have come out lighter.

It sure is cute! I love the style, with the bib and collar. I'm sure the skirt would not go all the way around to the back on me. My waist isn't that tiny. LOL!
