Claire and I skipped out to the big antique mall this Monday. We haven't seen much at the thrift and estate sales have been too far out of the way. I knew better than to think big because this mall loves to store their goods rather than sell them. Two things made it home with us before our hunger made us cave.
Darling vintage tin shelf. Which incidentally was filled quickly!
The tag stated mint? I found a few dents but at 30% off and I was sold. Detailed with the NBC, ABC and CBS microphones this can sing a tune all day long to me.
Oh and the scrolling...too cute.
Claire just about talked me out of this but my heart was taken.
I probably paid ten dollars too much but it is chippy and scrolly and well its a plant stand.
Who doesn't want to see this loaded up with colorful vines or a collection of pastel McCoy pots?
I promised her I would paint it...it remains in the kitchen for now.
Alright, now back to the divine part. I wait all year for this Church sale. It always has great stuff. I even pay to get in early. Wait in line in the sun for this! For this? One indent ornament!
A feed sack doll dress and that's it! I paid more to get in than I spent in the Church.
Well, Lincoln scored a soccer ball so he is happy. He pops them faster than we can buy them.
Yep, there's more...remember I failed. Once I managed to make it back to my car with my dismal treasure trove I hefted it into the back...bag and all. My car doesn't need a key to turn it on you just have to have it on you. Well, as soon as I saw the trunk going down I knew I was in for it my keys were in the bag and I was locked out. Good times... Yes, God I hear you. I walked the short mile home and asked my newly driving son to give me a ride back to my car...all he could say was "fail"...
Total fail...

I'm sorry that you ended up locking yourself out of your car. That just plain stinks. Your red shelf is just divine. It was totally meant for your sweet collections. Can't wait to see what you end up doing with your plant stand. It's got great bones.
Sounds like you had one of those days. I failed at shopping too! I can't decide if the good stuff just isn't out there anymore or I live in the wrong place. I drove 40 miles for $3.00 gloves. Geesh!
oh no! that sounds like something i would do for sure. such an annoyance after the rummage sale was a bust too! some days sure are like that. the red tin shelf and plant stand are so cute...i hope that makes up for the bad day you had! :)
Love the sweet red shelf. The plant stand could be used in many ways and is a great find.
Sorry the chrch didn't work out. Not funny about the keys. Look at it this way......you got to have a nice walk. Hope tomorrow is a better day.
Such a sweet and charming red shelf! Love the scrolling, so pretty! Look at all the adorable treasures happily being displayed on their new home. I see great potential with the plant stand. So sorry about locking yourself out, such a bummer. At least you weren't too far away from home. xo Heather
Church sales are my favorite. That's crazy that you only walked away with the dress and ornament. I went to a few sales today, and NOTHING! I was thinking about it on the way home. I believe that things are very different now than they were just 10 years ago. It's like the majority of vintage items have really been "flushed" from people's homes, and are now mostly in the antique shops. I fear that it's just going to get worse and worse. But I'm SO GLAD that gals like us have already aquired great vintage collections of the things we love. So when prices are out of this world expensive, we can say..."Oh, I have several of those!" Haha!
Erica :)
What a great red shelf! And I love the plant stand!!

Keys and I don't get along, so I feel your pain! Sorry your shopping didn't go so well ... you'll make up for it next time.
Love the scroll work on the shelf and of course you filled it in the blink of an eye!
At least you had a back-up driver waiting at home for you...the benefits of teen drivers!
That red shelf -love it. Too bad you got locked out-I hate when that happens. At least you had your son to bail you out.(mine would probably never let me forget it) Your dog is sooo cute!
I just love all your pretty things yuou always share! It is just so fun looking! And Lincoln is the only other dog beside my own Bear that I have heard pops soccer balls! Bear also pops basket balls, every ball he plays with is deflated because he pops the as soon as her gets them! Hi Lincoln, glad you like your ball. Sorry you had to walk!
Blessings,
Susie
Hi Renee!
Oh, I enjoyed this post...I'm so sorry about the disappointment of fewer vintage items, but, oh, your managed to find the sweetest red shelf! I love the curly design and bright red color...not to mention the lettering and design. What a perfect addition for your sewing room!
It really isn't the most convenient thing to lock ones self out of a car. I'm glad you live close and had a young hero to shuttle you back with the keys.
The little blue dolly dress is precious...It reminds me of some that my gramma made for me when I was little.
Thank you for your nice comments on my "Patti Play Pal" post. I have so many aprons to post in the coming days...and, many are for little girls.
Blessings,
Carolynn
LOL! - oh, I'm sorry, I am laughing WITH you! It wasn't a fail, you got a trip to the antique mall with your girl and that plant stand is just perfect and now you have all the bad junk luck out of the way for this Summer!

xoxo
Well the indent was a WIN! I never find those- anywhere!
Love the tin shelf but I'm with Claire on the other one. I'll feel better once you paint it. :)
I don't know why but I have never locked myself out of my van OR lost my keys before. sigh. It's hard being so "different". ;)
Well at least the red shelf and the chippy plant stand were a fun find! Stinks about the keys being locked in! I did that twice in one week once! DH was not happy!
Blessings
Linda
So sorry you got locked out of your car. The good side is at least you did not have far to walk. Your red shelf is perfect. What great finds.

the shelf is fantastic! You've hit the jackpot again, glad you surrendered and bought the plant stand, love the scrolls!!!
I laughed out loud when you talked about your dog getting a new soccer ball because he keeps popping them...and there in the background...a poor sad popped ball! lol!
Sweet red shelf! But I can relate to the sorry church sale- seems I've been running into a lot of that sort of thing lately...
Glad you were able to get out of your fail situation easily- I guess if it has to happen, it's good you were only a mile from home!
luv your finds Renee! I got one of those red shelves well similar at a tag sale here in AZ. I think for a buck but it was gold not red. LUV mine! it is in my bath room.
As for the unfortunate events, hehe it is now in the past. Congrats~ You passes your lil test. :)
How frustrating! But at least you were close enough to walk! I LOVE that sweet red shelf! It really is perfection!
It is getting harder and harder to find vintage things at the thrift stores or at garage sales. I am grateful for the few things I have.
The red shelf is to die for! Love it! And I love the plant stand. I love stuff like that....
It's always fun to read your posts. =)
What a darling little dolly dress! :-) Love your bright red shelf and the plant stand. Yes, I think it will look perfect filled with McCoy pots! My daughter locked herself out of her car (and apartment) last week and had to wait til her cousin arrived with a spare set. . Thankfully he was on his lunch break when it happened and could get away from work. Not fun!!
