Where Bloggers Create 2011

It is such a thrill to peek into the spaces of my favorite artists.  I love to see how they display their vintage treasures.  How they use each bit and bob to store and decorate.  Find out what their inspiration is.  Last year I spent days perusing the pages of blogs of Where Bloggers Create II soaking up the ideas and jotting down my favorites.  Having only blogged for eight months I guess I am still a bit new but I have been reading blogs for years and crafting even longer.  This is My Vintage Mending studio, where the door is always open and the vintage goodness overflows!

All of my favorite things purposely placed.  My compulsively clean nature makes it hard not to keep things labeled and tidy.  I use every inch of this former dining room table to cut my linens, glue my paper crafts or post my blog.  I recently hung a vintage laundry line to clip my vintage hankies too.

Dressers that I rescued for free don fresh paint and Irmi handles.  Typewriter carts for modern day printers work beautifully for refrigerator baskets as files below.  The tin cabinet was once a rusty garage paint cabinet found at an estate sale find for ten dollars.

There are no color limits here...no style set in stone.  My recent french chair makeover is paired with a salesmen sized dresser I added decals to.  Inside are all my hand stitching necessities.

Sewing center newly appointed in this thrifted cabinet.  The tucked in pink typewriter table is for my ironing board.  I am still looking for wallpaper to redo the cabinet officially.  As I find the hoops at thrift stores I place my vintage hankies in them above.

Jenny Lind shelf filled to the brim with my favorite pottery faces.  There will never be enough Irmi lamps for me...just in case you are wondering.  Nursery shelf made over to house more inspiration.

This older dresser has been four colors.  Two years ago I took it down to the bare wood and put some glass knobs on it.  It has been a life saver for storage of stamps, paper, tape, and other unsightly office needs.  The wire shelf was dripping in cob webs when I drug it out of a basement sale.  It folds flat (not that I would ever do that) and is the best ten dollars I have ever spent for storage. It holds more than any other shelf/dresser.

Card racks from the thrift store holds needle books, Valentines, postcards, and more.  Simple and industrial.  I don't want it to be too soft in here.  Why not hang a house on the wall?  Up went the fridge (hung by 3m) it holds vintage tea towels.  The tin house holds its original furniture and loads of charm.  It is resting on 2 nails.

Doll dressers are some of my favorite storage and accessory pieces.  They hold stickers, children's hankies, playing cards, paper clips and all kinds of small items that I can never find.

Inside the metal cabinet...

My craft supplies...a baby tub full of vintage linens!

Toolbox full of buttons.

Dresser full of notions.

Shelf of vintage nursery love.

Salvaged Hoosier.

Desk organization at it's vintage finest.

The smallest of sewing machines fitted with a mending needle, ready to start on something new.

The excitement of turning vintage linens into something modern and wearable/decor is unmeasurable for me.  Hand work and patterns of the past that were so lovingly done deserve a chance at the table again.  Whether as a ruffle, trim, apron, or more.

Time spent in my mending room is always time well spent.  A place where they door is always open. What a gift to be able to share my space this year in Where Bloggers Create 2011, among so many of my favorite artists.  Join me along with over 250 other fabulous bloggers.

Renee - it is all so charming - every little nook & cranny. I'm having some major organizational envy right now! And I love that your printer is on an old typing table -- brilliant. I have one in my garage that is going into my doily factory first thing in the morning. You have inspired me. Thanks for the tour :-)

Renee, You could share your studio each and every day, and I would return again and again to drool over your creative displays. Because of you I gave a second look to an old wooden toolbox. Your mentioning "scrub it like crazy" made me bring it home! American ornaments? Cowboy and cowgirl, of course! Have a great summer weekend! E

Hi Renee!
I took my time here today...finally made it over here! I made each picture larger and studied every detail. Your room is as charming as you are...cute and fun! We had metal typewriter tables and tall metal cabinets in my home growing up. Many of your "vintage" toys are like ones I played with. Visiting your studio was a real trip down Memory Lane for me. The way you've made everything your own is awesome.
By the way-is the picture of you new? I don't remember seeing it before. You are as cute as your room!!
Happy Monday
xoxo
