Big plans and thank you...

Another lovely morning here in the Midwest had me hitting one quick estate sale before I started in on the house work.  A line of familiar faces and friendly smiles were already at the door.  Weather this picture perfect will make anyone happy.  Amazing what weather extremes will do to a person.  These same people will be all but strangers in a few short months when we are bundled up to the gills in a line like this...nevertheless a quick in and out was just the ticket.

My first stop on these sales is always the garage.  I am drawn to the rust I suppose.  Gardening tools, storage, sprinklers, tin cans, you name it...they keep it in the garage.  Storage was the winner today.  This sweet cabinet was just waiting for me.  It must have held paint for years.  It is strong and sturdy.  Metal feet on the bottom.  It has good bones and great structural lines.  Makes me think it might have been a side to a Hoosier.  Today it was mine for ten dollars.

I think its original intent was a kitchen cupboard.  There are tiny little cup hooks at the top.

It is thick with grime and grease. There are cobwebs and crinkles.

The only damage is on the bottom where the veneer is pulling from the front panel and the bottom shelf is rickety.  It looks like water damage to me.

Armed with wood glue, clamps and rubber mallet...this is a simple fix.

The decals are missing and I am a little bummed out but I have had this vintage wallpaper for sometime and this is the perfect spot for it.

Tomorrow, I am going to spray paint it with this lovely color...sweet cream...and apply the paper to the door insets.  Looks like my fabric overload is going to have a new home...

I have had the opportunity to meet the most amazing people while blogging.  This sweet lady is no exception.  Miss Keren from Free Pretty Things for You is amazingly talented and works magic with vintage images.  She can revamp blogs like no other and make buttons to boot. Just like her blog title she graciously offers free images for people to share in their crafting.  Today while reading my blog roll I was happily surprised at how take she was with my crafting room.  What a sweetheart to feature me on her amazing website. The above darling image is one that Miss Keren created.  Isn't she darling!
Thank you Keren!

One more thing...my one year blogiversary is coming up fast and I have stunningly hit 300 followers.  Giveaways are in order.  Watch in the next week or two as I gather up some of my favorite things and sew up a new apron goody for a few lucky winners...

Oh you Rusty Girl you! I have goosebumps at the thought of first eying this perfectly perfect cabinet - it's so you! The clock? I am always embarrassed to ask if someone wants something as though I am decorating their craft room. Please think of it as recycling as I can't even begin to tell you how many things lovely people send me. The clock was only $2.00 (I couldn't believe it!)I can tell the hands are not original and need to be replaced. Posting tomorrow. Have a great weekend! E

Great find and congratulations on the shout-out! Thank you for commenting on my blog, as well. It is good to know I'm not alone in the struggle to "play" - ha! Rescuing that cabinet is the PERFECT kind of play time if you ask me. Love it when I get to do that.

Lucky, lucky girl! What an awesome find, and storage pieces are always worth their weight in gold. Of course you'll make it amazing looking. Keren is my kind of gal....sharing vintage images for free is the only ethical way to do it. She always makes the cutest buttons, too.

Hugs,
Meri

Oh My, Renee, those cabinets go for around 100.00. I did buy one for 25.00 and I thought that was a steal.
I am pretty sure that is a hoosier style side cabinet, too. They are so handy. I have my mother in law's in my laundry room to hold my iron, laundry supplies and even my candles. It smells good. I also have one in my bathroom and two more not in use. None of them match, unfortunatley.
I can't wait to see how your's comes out. I love the style.
