Scraps!

I would have loved to have had a set of Betsy McCall dolls.  Mine were the five and dime variety.  The kind you punched out of a book.  Not that I am complaining but when I happened upon these beautiful Betsy dolls I realized their was an entire story wrapped up in them.  Lines of clothing.  Seasonal even.  One of the sheets reads that her dad is James and he is 6 feet tall...of course.  She even has a doxie named Nosy.  Oh how much I have missed with just my five and dime paper dolls.  Thank goodness these can be found online.  Even in one spot.  Follow the above link to see the original line of Betsy McCall dolls on Pinterest.

It just so happened that I had to stop by the church charity shop to unload a couple of bags.  Which meant I had to stop and check the shelves for goodies.  This fantastic stack was marked at 5 dollars!  An outstanding purchase that I will drool over for weeks.

This is the only completed circle in the bunch.  I can tell that some of them were clothes she must have cut up.  Most of them are feed sack.  Some of them are canvas.  All of them are lovely.  I counted around 170 half circles.  That makes 85 whole circles of quilty goodness.

All of which are hand stitched.  Incredible!  That can make years of pillows, pincushions, ruffle trims, I could go on for days, months, years even.

This darling green glass was just icing on the scrap cake.  Can't imagine how long these have been sitting and waiting to be finished, but I can see the love that went into them and I am ready to show it off.

I am in love with paper dolls. Found the on the net not to long ago and went crazy. When I was little I had all kinds of paper dolls. I think my precious paper dolls got thrown away and lost forever. I have never been able to find them.
Wow you hit the scrappy jack pot. What a great deal and to know they where had stitched with love. (priceless)

Oh Renee, look over there! Quick! It's a circus elephant? Didn't you see it?

The thifting fairy was smiling at you with those quilt pieces! What a lovely lovely find. You really went to the thrift store at the right time that day! I have several vintage paper doll sheet framed in my craft room. I miss Mary Engelbreit's magazine and her sweet paper dolls.

Isn't it amazing what you can do with scraps--if you have talent (which I don't! LOL).

SOME CALL IT RED

“I don’t have time,” my grandfather said,
“to dither around and stand on my head,
pretending that crimson is blue, not red—
just tell me the truth, if you please.

“I’m much too old for being lied to,
so tell me the truth about the rose hue
that colors the sky when the day is through
and adds a bright blush to the trees.

“Some call it red and some call it pink,
some call it strawberry wine-colored ink;
I call it rubicund, that’s what I think—
now leave me alone, if you please.”
