Thrifty

Early last week I snuck off to my favorite local thrift store. Not expecting much I was again sweetly surprised. Wish I knew if it was my "never get a basket rule" or "don't expect much law"? Either way I had an hour of fun for pennies in my pocket.

Just a small lot but pretty none the less.

Vintage cards and game pieces. Whitman checkers...never used.

Buttons on cards. I have this need to save every last one.

Hello, my name is Renee and I am addicted to vintage embroidery transfers.

Vintage books oh how I love their covers.

Just a few more treasures. Some to keep some to send away.

Hidden on a shelf in a plastic zip lock I found these amazing sewing books.
(My second copy of the blue Dressmaker book.)

Folded up in the middle of the lot was this January edition of Needlewoman.
1927

Super cute (never used) Baby Book and a yard of this cute juvenile print.

Poor Santa. He needs to be "Magpied" but I love his face.

Geometric print tablecloth in bright red.

I always pick up these old tool boxes. They hold anything from cards to tape, tags to trim. Most of the time they are cheaper than the plastic ones.
How nifty to bring it all home in my new old picnic basket.

Tomorrow I have a very long overdue mail post of all the recent postman packages. Come back and see what's new.

I was sitting here feeling button envy when I was hit with a wave of yellow juvenile print fabric envy, followed quickly by vintage tablecloth envy. I think I just have a big ol' case of good thrift store envy.

I laughed out loud at your "Hello, my name is Renee..." comment. Also got a chuckle out of "Your Wardrobe Needs." I needed that after a loooong day! Thanks!

Oh Renee...love to see all of your finds. It seems as though we would have the same items in our baskets if we went together....I guess we would fight over the items...lol. Anyway, love the Hippity Hop book...too adorable. Of course I love all of your finds. I never thought of looking in the our thrift stores books section for sewing books. I will have to do that on my next trip. As for the juvenile print, swoooon.

Wow, Renee, what a great thrift store you've got! I never find any vintage things like these at our thrift stores, but sometimes the local antique mart has some good stuff. I love all the books and the sewing books. Those transfers look great!

I don't even bother with thrifts as I NEVER find anything anymore...evidently I need to drive to Kansas to hit a thrift.
Love the term "magpied"!

Is this a magical thrift shop? You find more in one store on one day than I find in a week. :-) You seem to be a magnet for all the best vintage sewing books as well!

LOL Is this one of my posts, or yours???
And NO, never get a basket! You assume you'll find nothing, be thrilled when you do, and go get the basket when your arms are full!
That fabric looks like it was meant to be yours.
Also, I have to show you this stack of embroidery transfers I got at a Garage Sale the other day! I'll give you one. You'll laugh!

Wow! You really did hit the jackpot! Most days around here there's nothing but ugly clothes in the thrift stores but every now and then you get lucky, and you had a very lucky day!!

I love all your finds!! Those vintage children's books...they are wonderful.
Oh! I want to tell you that I saw a very nice porcelain doll in an antique's shop and I think it's the one you have, one that is sitting down and reading a book, with a red ribbon on his hair. The owner told me it is from Japan, it is a stop for books together with a boy, do you think it can be the same one? When I saw it I inmediately remember yours!

I am loving that Santa!!! The thrift shops haven't provided me much loot lately around here (other than the dollhouse, but that was out-of-state). But that's okay, because it keeps me from going quite as frequently!
