Time for a new book.

I have been toying with the idea that it is time to turn the page in my own book so to speak. Wondering if it was out of fear or excited about what it might be. A waning creative drive helped make the decision. No, last year was not a "great" year for me but it was my year and I have to own it. No amount of talking or tears will help me see something I need to do any clearer.
The definition of me is first and foremost a mom.  I have three wonderful children that don't need any more hand holding. As they have grown older my definition hasn't changed, I remain a mom. While I have spent time out volunteering and sewing, a little bit of side work as a preschool teacher and a few other odd jobs, I haven't committed myself to anything because of the children. In someways I have lost the definition of myself. The girl that graduated college in 3 years..because she was driven and more importantly motivated somehow morphed into someone I don't recognize.
All of this leads to a great deal of change and anxiety. Of course this economy is not conducive to taking my time and or my choice of career paths. Going back to school full time to pursue something I might like seems duly daunting. And so here I am realizing...its not only time to turn the page but probably time for a new book. My husband supporting me as I take each new step. My children needing a new role model for what their future may be.
All of this being said, I wanted to take time to express my absolute gratitude to all of you who have supported me over the past two years. Your gentle words and packages in the mail have provided such sweet memories and kindness. I am truly thankful.
On Monday, I open up the new book that has been placed before me and start training to become a medical assistant. Three full months of classroom work and study. Something I haven't done in years. To be fair, I am more than a little afraid but I am excited to be getting out of the old and learning to embrace the new.
I know it is always a little bit sad when I finish a book, fear of missing time spent with the characters, but it is just as exciting to find another book and begin a new journey.
Thank you for this journey.

And there you were pondering BIG thoughts...I thought you were like me, stuck in the Blogger fail to upload new pix mode! I'm sure you will succeed in WHATEVER you put your mind to, Renee. It's fun to go to school when you have a goal in mind and this is a great goal! Enjoy it.

I appreciate your openness and honesty. I can completely understand how you feel. I once cried in a parking lot of a Bath and Body Works, because after staying home with the my kids for 7 years the girl there (at least half my age) asked me if was interested in part time work for the holidays, even just Saturday or Sunday if you have kids. I went back to the car and cried and thought, I am hire-able? Women are amazing with all the roles we take on and always putting ourselves last. Bravo to you! You will do just fine and have a different appreciation for work. I am subbing now full time. It's not what I planned to ever do after college, but it is rewarding and the paychecks are an extra perk! Good luck!

Oh Renee your path sounds a bit like mine, maybe in reverse. I stayed home with my children. I had been a medical assistant when I got married. I wanted to be a pre-school teacher and went back to college when my kids were in high school. I also adopted a five year old during this time. I never thought I could do college at my age then but I did and was so proud of myself. It took a little time to adjust but now I look back and think, how did I do that with 4 children. You will do great. I hope you still have time to blog a little. Good luck.

Hi Renee, 16 years ago - I had a life changing event happen in my life and marriage. While it seemed impossible, what happened is that I returned to college. The kids survived - and I thrived. I became happier and stronger, a bit more assertive, and more confident. I am a teacher because I "had" to step out and take care of "me". I love teaching. Life is full of seasons, I think. This season is for "you". May it bear much sweet fruit. I have sooooo loved meeting you and visiting you. You are a remarkable woman. Wherever you go, and whatever you do, you will bless others. I just know that. Hugs, Patti

I spent a good number of years concentrating on being mom to my three children...it was and still is my life even though they are all with families of their own.
Being able to take time to do something for yourself can be rather daunting but I know your husband and family are proud of your efforts and will be cheering you on!
I, too, started a new book when I decided to embark on an at-home career but it was short lived when unexpected health issues got in the way. I pray that your new book brings you great joy as the pages and chapters unfold before you. Blessings!

I found the purpose for my life at your very age and began a career my entire life had led me to fulfill. That you are entering the medical field is not a surprise at all. Your caring attitude all your years of mothering and absorbing so much from your husband will make you feel comfortable and successful in your endeavor. Shine Renee, Shine! E

I completely understand your heart, Renee. I've been in the same boat and have had to make important decisions with careers. Having lost mine due to an injury, I had to "reinvent myself" (with my disability) and now love what God has put before me..and that is to be my own boss. He continues to bless. May your "book" be full of fun characters, lots of joy and excitement, and - moreso - successful. **cheers!!** to a beautiful soul!
