State Fair

I think I get just as many comments about my entry images as the blog post themselves...
This one is a favorite vintage card I bought from my go to source Etsy a while back.
I suppose it would be way too simple for modern times...maybe that is why I like it so much.
You are all welcome to craft with the images that open my post.

I like to clean them up and edit the words out to make them more generic for everyday use.
Back to blogging...
If you have not seen the old movie State Fair, stop now and go do it.
Let me clarify...the 1945 Rogers and Hammerstein's remake of State Fair.
You can thank me later for the gorgeous technicolor and farm beauty you are about to see.
It is about a family that goes to the Iowa State Fair.
The kind that you can watch with kids running around under foot and not have to worry about the bleeps.
It is a wonderful movie with great family values, brilliant colors, and the most gorgeous dresses.
Just like the one I found recently.

In search of a permanent dress for my mannequin,
it didn't take long to say yes to this dress.
Gingham, rick rack, and full skirt.
All hand made with the label of love intact.
I wonder if she was ever worn?
There isn't a stain to be seen.
These are the dresses that flattered every figure and called for sandals.

Although this dress does evoke keen memories of that great movie,
none of the names in the movie are sweet enough to tempt me to name the dress for them.
Grace seems far more apropos.
What?  You don't think Grace Kelly ever made award winning pie?

State Fair is one of my all time favorites!! The songs are great, too. I could sing them all day!

I may have to watch that movie again tonight!

What ever became of teeny tiny waists? I know I never had one, even at birth. This dress reminds me of several old movies...we love watching the old ones.
Your images are always smile inducing...thanks for letter us borrow them.
I really like your mending studio curtains. I think we had curtains in our kitchen very similar to that pattern. (Back in the late 50's)
Have a fun week!

Ooooh, Renee! That dress is to DIE! I'm obsessed with vintage dresses and actually wear them all the time (nothing better than cotton frocks in the FL heat!).

Happy summer!

Haven't seen that movie in forever. My favorite movie is Please Don't Eat the Daisies with Doris Day. We used to get TNT here so I could watch the old movies, but don't get it anymore. That dress is amazing and so perfect for your mannequin. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Tammy

Renee, Your form dress is wonderful! I also am mad about your new mending room curtains. What a pretty color for the walls. Extra special is the photograph of your family. Too sweet for words! Elizabeth

"State Fair" is one of my favorite movies! I had just watched it a few weeks ago on t.v., but I own the DVD...such a vibrant, colorful movie and yes, I love those dresses & hats (the yummy cherries on Jeanne Crain's outfit).

ok Renee - I am going crazy today looking at your blog. EVERYTHING is just ME, ME, ME! I love STATE FAIR! Don't you just love the porch! And the curtains at the windows? Oh gosh, we are in the wrong era! Love, love, love this dress. It looks like something my mother would have made for me. She always dressed me in her creations. Where did that tiny waist go? LOL! Hugs, Patti - PS - I LOVE the skirt you made. That skirt is an inspiration to STAY on my diet this summer!
