Dog Days

Dog days of summer.  Are they not the bored days?  The kids are heading out for a canoe trip this weekend with their dad and the scouts.  I think it is his secret gift to me for making it through the summer still sane with the kiddos.  Bless him.  Two full days without the words "Mom, where's my...?"  I shall be fully sane by Sunday when they return.  My husband I fear will be weary at best.  This weekend it is just me and the dogs...

Poor Murphy...he was mad that he could not slip and slide with the kids.  The dog just loves the water hose.  So we sent him downstairs for the next best thing...soccer.  But his soccer ball was next to the big bad scary fan!  He quickly retreated to his favorite arm chair to pout and bark for someone to assist in it's emergency retrieval...scary fan might just eat that ball.  Before anyone could get there he just plain gave up and hung his head in defeat. Or his head was too heavy to hold up any longer.  On a side note we go through soccer balls like water around here.  They must be physically removed from his jaws for fear that he will not stop playing and take a break.  Happy dog days around here indeed.

Sometimes we have to make sense for our dogs as they just do not have good sense at times. These photos crack me up especially the one looking out the window.

Ah, the joy of having a quiet weekend alone. I would craft for hours and eat nothing but cereal and grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches. Enjoy your time as I'm sure the rest of your family will enjoy theirs.
Your pup cracked me up...who says dogs don't have personalities?

Have a lovely weekend with your furry family members. Murphy is adorable!! I hope you are shopping, sewing and spoiling yourself rotten while the kiddos are gone.

PS. We're home. Digging out from laundry and sand.

I love time alone like that -- no cooking or schedules -- just doing (mostly) whatever I feel like. Have a great time!

I hope you and your doggies are enjoying a lovely weekend -- you'll be ready for everyone to come home at the end of it! I loved reading about the big scary fan and the soccer ball!

LOL! Enjoy your weekend "off"! I once knew a dog who was scared to death of the telephone cord (remember those!) and you could lay it in a circle around him and no way, no how would he step over it.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend to yourself!! Not a single second of quiet around here...more like madhouse. Weddings, receptions and brunches to attend. Kids trying to pack up to move, etc...

At home alone is often better than a vacation away from home, lucky you!

Here's a trick I used when mine were younger, if you tell them to do a chore every time they see you, they will not bug you anymore. This is especially good with bedtime procrastinators. "Oh hey. I'm still glad you're up munchkin, could you pull those towels out of the dryer? Thanks!"
