Garden lovelies...

It is my most favorite garden week.  Peony blooms in plethora.  I pulled most of my ironstone pitchers just to fill them to overflowing.  Fresh flowers in the house should be affordable.  These are right in my budget...free out of the backyard.

These are transfers from ten years ago when we moved in.  Love the old fashioned feel they have.
In college we called them poor mans rose.

A tiny Johnson Bros. creamer just right for my desk with Japanese irises and a full pale pink peony.  I even enjoy the petals that fall on the table...

Baptista in full bloom as well...last year I planted a yellow variety but like most hybrids it is slow to grow.

Not slow growing...the strawberry patch.  Definitely going to have to can jam if these make it.
Some where in there are my kids snap peas and a pepper plant.  My kids love to eat those snap peas raw while playing ball in the backyard.

These are the most amazing blooms to watch.  The fruit forms before your eyes.  Always a favorite...

These are going to be great if the birds don't get them...

The rhubarb is just now turning.

Soon the honeysuckle will be coming out.  I remember as a kid growing up in the country outskirts of Houston, my mom taught us to pick wild blackberries so sweet from the warm sun I will never buy one from the supermarket.  She also taught us how to pull the stamen out of wild honeysuckle and lick the honey inside.
Spring continues...

Before we sold my grandparents home, we transplanted a bunch of their Peonies to our new home. We're a few weeks away from blooms. They are my absolute favorite blossom. Your plants look so lush. I especially love how you are using pitchers for your bouquets. The treehouse has put us behind with flowerboxes and our vegetable garden. Maybe next weekend!!

Very nice peonies. I only had a few blooms this year, although I have lots of buds. I don't know if it was from the sudden heat we had when they were opening or what. I am so disappointed.

Hi Renee~
Loved seeing your garden pictures. My peonies are in bud but not opened yet and my strawberries aren't even close...in the 4 years I've had them (up on the deck in pots) I think I've had about 5 berries. The chipmunks are grand larceny thieves!!!!
I was catching up on your posts...the milk painted secretary is glorious...beautiful color!

Your garden is beautiful!! And your ironstone pitchers of flowers are so pretty!! I loved sucking the nectar from nasturtiums when I was little. did you ever grow those? I planted Baptisia at my first house. It was the most beautiful blue! Sadly it was another plant that never got replaced after we moved in here. What was I thinking? No peonies, no baptisia? :-(

What a beautiful garden I need to get out and tend to my backyard, I have just been to darn busy, but it sure needs some TLC. Hugs, Diane

Oh I love peonies and they grow really well here in Alaska except for in my yard. I have killed all the many ones I have tried to grow so I'm taking a hint and not buying anymore. Strawberries yes they grow nicely and yours look just wonderful.

ahh honeysuckles. i can remember many a lazy day in the summer lying beneath the honeysuckle and pulling the "honey" from them. the sweet days of youth. i grew up in kansas. we had a huge yard with all sorts od secret hiding places, fruit trees and flowers. so many flowers. including peonies and hollyhocks. my mother would take me out in the early morning to make hollyhock dolls which i would play with in the shade all day so they would last. alas i now live in texas and i can't grow a thing i want to. to grow the flowers i grew up with would take gallons of water every day so they wouldn't burn up. i know, i've tried. since i'm more ecologically minded now i won't do that. we also have a yard that gets complete sun or total shade. neither one is good for growing purposes. especially when your complete sun will be over 100 degrees for weeks on end. so continue to put up your beautiful photos. i am loving and drooling over each one. they are so gorgeous.
