Livestock

A blustery morning, two estate sales, and some livestock! It was beautiful this morning. Brisk with the threat of rain. My favorite estate sale co. was having a pre-sale and I was excited to be out in the free air conditioning.

The pickings were so interesting I enjoyed every nook and cranny in each house...The bin drawers in the back are turquoise already!

Best in show.

Kellogs cluckers.

Lovely livestock.
Including a chalkware sheep.

Honey Horses.

Fireman too...
All these are going on jars for gifts. I knew I could find some.

Dear Santa and Frosty.

Linens with divine stitching.

My heart sang when I found these...little strawberry napkins and a set of geese towels. Underneath is a delicate linen and lace child's pillowcase.

Lambs and Puppies

It has been a while since I have pushed my cart through the baby aisles. I doubt I could find anything as cute as a few recent finds. Are lambs even trendy anymore in the nursery? It wouldn't stop me. I would happily trot into the paint store carrying my latest luggage just to color match it for the walls. Want to see?

My hunt for one of these nursery suitcases has been on for a while. To dress up the cream handle I will hang a vintage rattle. A place for vintage children's hankies.

A vintage nursery set I have loved from afar for over a year was found on sale! These are two of the four that came complete on a little wicker tray. Hand painted lambs frolic on them. I think pink and blue buttons will look perfect in them.

Miss Erica of Golden Egg Vintage sent this darling embroidery and feedsack for a special order.

I had more fun putting handles and trimming it out.

Placed a brand new label on it.

I made sure lots of Noel's toys could fit in it...I will be mailing it off tomorrow.

Other peoples quilts.

Vintage can summon up memories from the past. It can remind you of the things you didn't have. Sometimes it can help you complete someone elses dream. I think about these things when I drift up and down the hallways or in and out of houses at sales.  Who played with this and why did they keep it? Other times I wonder why some things went unfinished.

This work in progress was found in pieces. I have managed to finish it into a lap size quilt. It was originally hand stitched and I did find remnants of machine stitching.

The fabric feedsacks are crisp and bright. No lingering smell and only a few stains.

Perhaps it is wonky and a bit askew I can't help but think that someone started it and needed me to finish it.

This was my inspiration. If you know me you know I have longed to quilt and tried to quilt with no success...yet. The talented and gifted Miss Renee (yes, another one!) sent me one of her creations. One that she said looked like me.

Her quilter did an amazing job on every little stitch.

Each fabric choice so perfectly matched.
Thank you Renee, I needed this quilt more than you know.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

Practical Pig, Play Pig and Sailor Pig. Hmm...I know I am by all regards Practical Pig but I have to say that I would be most comfortable in Sailor Pigs outfit. II do hope I don;t snarl through the day with that look on my face like that P.P. does?

Now I know that Play Pig would be living in this Pink house. Can you believe how much this looks like a dollhouse. The estate sale was across the street.

This is the ugly part of estate sales. Hot houses filled with boxes and dust, basements that smell and items that have been covered in grease and dust for years.

After a quick sort...this is the bad...all the stuff that didn't make the cut. Curlers that were in the tin, old wax candles in a grab bag with an alka seltzer bottle I wanted and a few 80's Christmas balls that have seen their last day. All trash.

The good. Beautiful Rudolph Christmas book, tiny records, empty box of Christmas candy (free) because it held the ornaments. Every thing has been cleaned and wiped free of dust.

I just couldn't leave them.

Only two little linens but this fridge was amazing.

At a mere four inches these treats are calorie free.

A few items for  Dr. Dan's room that is still under construction.
(We cannot put the oil based paint on the shelves until it cools down.)

Pink pottery, tin and Whitman cards.
(Reagan gets on this quilt every single time I get it out.)

Kitchen favorites.
This jar was on the back porch and so dirty I nearly left it. Wait until I get my beach glass in it.

Sew on Rhinestones in 50's colors. Hoops from a bag and an assortment of hooks found in the alka seltzer bottles?

What I left behind were tin dollhouses and barns priced well over their worth. A Sears Catalog from 1953 was bargain priced at $49? Children's books marked above eBay prices. Its all going to be there on half price day and that is still way too much for me.

Harmony colors at last...

Introducing the Harmony House colors of 1958. After weeks of delay we are finally back to reveal the color you have been waiting for. These major and accent colors can bring each room of your home into the new century through the stroke of a paint brush.

Warm dawn gray with a stroke of frosty pink. Accents of sunshine yellow and aquamarine.
Ooo...swanky.

This is the Ming Blue family, welcome home.
Shades of Ming blue accented with yellow and black.

Oh..sorry, I was busy jumping on my bed.
Frosty pink and Cherry Red with Aquamarine, black and spice brown. Can you see that floral wall paper?

"Gay color scheme for the room in which a women spend so much of her time?"
"Practical decorating"
Ladies, this is when it all went wrong.

Sunshine to relax?
Not so sure on this one.
An old chair painted sage green...hmm...sounds familiar.

Then they completely lost me.
An occasional chair in Federal Gold?
No..that will never come back in style again...in my house at least.

If you need me I will be in my pink room digging around in my aquamarine jewelry box all weekend long.

Handy Andy

I loaded up early and headed out for an estate sale. The Ad boasted that the owners had been former antique dealers. I was worried it would be overpriced but I was desperate for a good hunt. Anything to beat the heat.

Twenty bucks and a smile will get you a lot at an estate sale if you are lucky.

Handy Andy was filled with odd tools in the garage and layered in grease until I "Palmolived" him. (He is perfect for bias tape and rick rack.)

Beautiful trims and a bit of sewing.

Gardening...finally!

Cute lady bug Hudson Sprayer.

The Sunset Rose book has stunning pictures in it. Almost technicolor looking.

Whitman Old Maid cards and a super cute blotter paper set of illustrations that look very similar to Mabel Lucie Attwell. Further investigation and my reading glasses are still required.

Single embroidered pillowcase and a huge lot of hankies.

Just when I started to get worried about not finding any in a while. A shoe box full of hankies found its way to me.
