While over reading at a favorite blog last month I happened across this Holiday apron pattern. Before I get too caught up in my thoughts I have to tell you how wonderful Barbara's blog is. Aptly named Oodles and Oodles it is filled with vintage finds and family stories. She is a talented writer who invites you in and shares with her funny quips and smart facts. If you haven't already subscribed to her posts I know you will and if your lucky you can snag an item from her Etsy shop or her Ebay auction.
With my holiday corsages out and ready for decorating I knew this would be a perfect peppermint pairing.
I do love patterns but it seems I have such a hard time following them exactly. I brought the ruffle all the way up to the ties. My peppermint stick is donning a white bow instead of a red one. The sash needed more contrast so I chose stripes? The one thing I did follow was the tie lengths and they came out too short for my liking. You can barely tie the bow? As I look at the cover photo on the pattern I notice these little models have hardly a waist anyway. Maybe I just need to bake and not actually eat the cookies!
Barbara, thank you for the daily inspiration. I had such fun altering this reproduction. It is fun to step back in time and pretend even if for just a moment....

Oh, you are so nice to me. Your apron is just adorable. I always wanted to make the one that looks like a rooftop - it's that chimney pocket that I love. Oh, and the stuffed Santa that goes in it <3 <3 <3.
I think this is a really charming make over! I would need the longer ties as well! Aprons are fun, but with Christmas themes, they are even better. The candy cane and stripes make it look very yummy. On my way now to check out, Oodles and Oodles.

Yes, Oodles is great...love her hoosier & jadeite & vintage goodness. Such a cute Christmas apron...I have a special fondness for red/white stripes, candy stripes...when we were little I went to visit my best friend who had a little candy-striped apron on while she was doing her chores/cleaning. I just loved that. Sweet memories it evokes.
The apron is just darling and yes you are right I had a waist like that when I was in my 20's! I too love Vintage Corsages very fun to collect! Hugs, Diane
I like how you revised the pattern and made that apron your own! The picture of it on the mannequin, with the picnic basket and bread boxes is one of the best I've seen, and it belongs in a magazine!

Cute apron! And I think the white bow makes a lovely contrast. Have you noticed that all the the models in the vintage patterns have tiny waists. Maybe they didn't eat back then. ;/ LOL
