Details on Decals

Lots and lots of questions come in for decals.  I happened to stumble upon making my own out of necessity. Vintage images need to be seen and pasted on everything.  It is very helpful when the vintage  digital genius Keren from, Free Pretty Things for You, provides fantastic images like the ones above. You can download the original images here.

Grab your favorite colors of spray paint and most importantly clear acrylic sealer.

Print your images on ink jet water slide clear decal paper. I found mine here. 

*Let your images dry for an hour or two.

*Spray with at least 2 coats of  acrylic clear coat.

(Your print will dissolve if you do not cover with clear coat.)

The paint colors I chose on the lids for the round images are light enough to allow the images to remain opaque. The birds will be placed on the jar for a different effect.

These jars were picked up at my local hobby store for less than a dollar each and will make great end of the year teacher gifts.

In a warm water bath, soak your image for about a minute. Use the paper towel to help smooth it into place and release the paper backing.

The bird image on glass remain very translucent and will take on the colors of the objects in the jar.

A handful of penny candy and this gift is set. I might have trouble getting rid of these?  Thank you Keren for inspiring another wonderful project.
